New York, NY (January 8, 2020) – Former NFL player Chris Canty, NBA Cares Ambassador Felipe López, and 500 volunteers will join City Year New York for a day of community service at PS 43 in the South Bronx to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Attending will be volunteers from 14 companies: AT&T, Bain & Company, Bain Capital, Capital One, Comcast NBCUniversal, Enterprise, HSBC Bank, K2 Intelligence, Lindsay Goldberg, Starbucks, Santander, T-Mobile, TowerBrook, and Wells Fargo.
During the school year, 200 City Year New York AmeriCorps members serve every day in 18 New York City schools as tutors, mentors and role models, preparing students with the skills and mindsets to succeed in school and in life. In New York, City Year is supported in part the New York City Department of Education, and the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, which underwrites the “School’s Out NYC” (SONYC) afterschool program.

WHO: Chris Canty is a former NFL player and Bronx native. In 2010, he founded the Chris Canty Foundation dedicated to enhancing the total development of youth with the goal of utilizing sports to affect positive chance in the lives of children through mentoring, educational programs, and health and fitness activities.
Felipe López is a former NBA player who moved to New York City at age 14 from the Dominican Republic. In 200, he founded the Felipe Lopez Foundation to develop an environment for positive learning and healthy living that includes providing scholarships to further educational opportunities as well as building a state-of-the-art educational institute in the Dominican Republic.

PS-43 PIZZA & SUMMER READING PARTY
On June 18, Chris Canty threw a pizza and book party at Jonas Bronck Elementary School in the Mott Haven neighborhood in the Bronx. Chris met with the students over pizza and then helped distribute books for summer reading.

Orangeburg, S.C. – Amid the celebration of Claflin University's 149TH homecoming, November 17, 2018, the Chris Canty Foundation has donated a $10,000 to the Panther Total Package (PTP) Leadership and Development. The check presentation was a part of the men's basketball homecoming game half-time activities.

The Chris Canty Foundation is proud to sponsor the schoolyard renovation at P.S. 43 located in the Bronx, New York. Opened in December 2017, the schoolyard now provides the students with a safe place to play and learn with a newly installed turf field surrounded by a running track, playground games, a separate educational space and a fully padded basketball area.
The Foundation gratefully acknowledges the support received from John McGinley, Raymond Quartararo of JP Morgan Chase & Co., Spencer Jurman and JLL, Inc., Daniel Bernstein and Kutnicki Bernstein Architects, Lev Feldman and Brighton Builders for execution and the NYC Department of Education's Division of School Facilities for making this endeavor a reality.
